Employment Services For Students

Faculty/Staff Information

Career Connections would like to partner with you in preparing students to successfully enter the workplace. Our Walk-In hours are between 9am and 3pm Monday-Thursday and 9am-noon on Friday.  You can also call us at 805-546-3204 if you have any questions. Below are the services available to Faculty/Staff through Career Connections.

Could your department use help, but can't afford an hourly worker?
Federal Work Study is a Federally "subsidized" job placement that is paid for by a student's financial aide grant. If you have hourly work that you could employ a student to do, please click on the Employer Registration & Job Link to register as an employer and post your job listing. Job experience is an excellent way to prepare students for the workplace, and work study students are an excellent way to get the help our departments need without the cost of an hourly worker.

After posting your Federal Work Study job listing on the NACElink system, please click on the  FWS Job Description Form and complete a copy of the form for our binder. Keep a copy for your records and send a copy to the Career Connections Department. In addition to the posting online, we will provide a special binder to students coming into the department looking for work. All of our online job postings will be immediately available to students.

To Hire a Federal Work Study (FWS) Student

If this is your first time hiring a Federal Work Study student, please review the following guidelines describing the process.

  1. Register your department and post a Job Listing for a Federal Work Study student on the NACElink Career Services Website.  After posting the job online please complete a FWS Job Listing form and send it to Career Connections.

  2. Please email Hunter Perry and let her know that you are interested in hiring a Work Study student and include what type of documents you would like the student to submit to you to apply for the job; i.e. Resume, Cover letter, Cuesta student hourly job application etc.

  3. Set up an appointment with the interested student for an interview.

  4. Interview interested student and discuss position requirements, hours (maximum 20/week) and qualifications with student.

  5. If you decide to hire the student:

    a. Request Federal Work Study paperwork from the student or the   Financial Aide Office by emailing or calling Jack Payne x2505.

    b. The Federal Work Study paperwork consists of 2 forms.  Complete the lower portion of the "Work Site Referral Sheet" and fill in the "Request for Classified Substitute/Short-term Hourly and Student Help" form (AKA a green Topsheet).

    d. Attach a copy of the completed FWS Job Description form.

  6. Return the 3 forms to the Financial Aid Office along with a Cuesta Student Hourly Job Application, if you have requested one.

  7. Student goes to HR to obtain packet, complete additional paperwork and obtain first time card.

  8. Time cards must be submitted to the Financial Aid office by the last working day of the month.
