WORLD'S (?) GREATEST PILLOW LAVA

Coastal bluff near Port San Luis Pier. This bluff is located just west of the Port San Luis Pier. First glance doesn’t suggest anything unusual, but take a closer look below.
The bluff is loaded with incredible pillow lava. What’s pillow lava? Take Geology 10 or 20 for details, but the simple answer is that they’re volcanic lava flows that erupted under water. These are part of the Franciscan assemblage and date from the Jurassic or Cretaceous period about 200 million years ago! We find them all over the central coast.  Pillow lava in bluff near Port San Luis Pier.
